    The greenhouse effect is natural in origin. Greenhouse gases naturally existing in the troposphere allow a majority of solar radiation to pass through to the surface of the Earth,
   but prevent most of the infrared radiation from escaping the Earth. This raises the average temperature of the Earth about thirty-three degrees Celsius, making it habitable for humans and other living organisms.
